We loved Google Wave, hoping it would expand to synchronize storage of tasks (Toodledo), events, documents and other files, chat with integrated functionality (the timeline for a group conversation was nice in Wave, for instance; or meeting, project and calendar tools) and attachments.

I'm grateful to Google and Toodledo for what's available, and if I can't manage to get organized, it's not for lack of perfect tools. That said, I have always expected that there would exist a strong infrastructure for the integration of these related areas of our knowledge and communication, such as our physical desktops. Google deserves all the praise they get, but so much of their work is experimental and lacking support that it is not thorough or reliable. I hope that they, along with companies like Toodledo, and people like you, will continue to work toward the kind of naturally integrated environment that our desk is: calendar, task list, typewriter, in-boxes and standing files, file drawers, boxes, cameras, and lots of pens and paperclips.Good work to you,Jonah Hershowitz

Re: ToodleDo Desktop Application – Update

Peter - Nozbe.. doesn't sync to Toodledo as it has it's own cloud/web app. It does, however, seamlessly integrate Evernote/Dropbox so you can access notes/files from within the Nozbe client/web app.

Re: Organizational Entropy

thanks tommarw my exam and i found this thanks for 5 marks

Re: ToodleDo Desktop Application – Update

Task Unifier is not free - at least not the sync. You can use free WITHOUT syncing with ToodleDo, but this way it's almost useless: cannot stand withouth sync.
So, basically it's a payd app presented as free. As they say in a smal lline on their site: "The plugins can be free or not.". And the only plugin you really need to make it works, it isn't.

Considering you've to pay it too, TaskAngel is a far better choice.

Re: How to Retire Rich – Abridged

1)Turn on computer
2)type on keys
3)????
4)Profit!

Re: The network is your laptop

@Jim Croft Stranger stuff has happened. Apple almost went bankrupt in the mid-90s.

I have a similar strategy - use cloud storage and apps, but try to keep offline backups just in case. It's great having your data whenever you need it, but Internet connections cannot be relied up. Dropbox has the right idea in this regard.

Re: The network is your laptop

Somehow, I don't see Google being bought out and taken over by Oracle any time soon. ;)
I am progressively running my personal personal on-line digital life more and more as a Google shop, but always looking to have a local cache of the data, and some local app to run it. It is working well, but I am a bit uneasy with being dependent on a private corporation an a bunch of suits who can and do change the rules at any time.
I am working to the 'Dropbox' model - use the cloud for sync and backup where you can, but keep a local (or alternative site) copy of everything and a 'plan B' (and C) to get at it.
Also, while there are perfectly adequate FOSS solutions out there, I won't be subscribing to an operating environment, even if it does mean making a few concessions and compromises.

Re: ToodleDo Desktop Application – Update

If you'd like to see how I set up Toodledo to work with GTD, see http://www.temafrank.com/20...

Re: How to protect yourself on open WiFi networks

There's also a FF extension called BlackSheep which will show if someone is using firesheep on your network (while also making it difficult for them to do so) and extensions that will force your browser to use TLS where possible on sites which support it.

Re: Kitchen Renovation – Day 1

Kitchen renovations takes a lot of planning. Do I like Apple’s closed model for the iPhone? Nope, and there are still many unstable apps (probably due to the lack of built-in garbage collection in iOS). But it’s a great user experience.

Re: ToodleDo Desktop Application – Update

Thanks for the comments folks, and while my intention is not to take potshots at applications, I do agree that I these are by no means extensive reviews, they are just impressions. I spent about an evening with each application and have purchased neither (which means I don't have the latest versions). I've added a disclaimer to the post to make this clear.

TaskSurfer indeed uses the Mac Mail folder three pane setup, but the look is just not right in my opinion (icons, toolbars, colors, etc.) It's not a big deal for most, but honestly, I don't think the Mail setup is the right approach for a to-do app anyway. It is certainly the most logical from a developer/data perpective, but I don't think it's the way most people work with their to-do lists.

Re: ToodleDo Desktop Application – Update

"...and one of the features I like the best is the ability to press a key combination from anywhere and have a mini window come up to enter a new task."

Seriously? You never figured out that TaskSurfer has that feature? Kind of mystified by your definition of "Mac like", too. TaskSurfer, for good or bad, looks a lot like Mail. That toolbar needs to be fixed, though.

As for TaskAngel's "OS integration", it's not even clear what you think is missing. Drag and drop (it has that)? Global hotkeys (has that, too)? It sounds like you're just taking petty potshots at applications you really didn't spend a lot of time with.

Re: ToodleDo Desktop Application – Update

If you’d like a tool for managing your time and projects, you can use this web-application inspired by David Allen’s GTD:

Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
Comes with a mobile version too, and with an Android app.

Re: ToodleDo Desktop Application – Update

I like the TaskAngel app for the desktop and I use the "Ultimate Todos" app on my iphone.
